SESSION DESCRIPTION: Through a panel composed of Repatriation and Cross-cultural specialists, a clinical psychologist and a virtual presentation by Apple Gidley, based on her life experiences and new book Expatriate life, one slice at a time, this interactive session will touch on various themes relevant to repatriation. These include the repatriation process from saying goodbye to coping with belonging and identity issues back home. Leveraging your international experience as well as tips and practical advice from other Global Nomads, we will look to touch on solutions and action steps to support all family members through re-entry shock.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This presentation is relevant for anyone due to repatriate in the next few months, for Human Resources practitioners serving an expatriate community, for trainers & coaches and any professionals who support relocating employees and their families.

Registration will begin at 5.30pm and the panel session will begin at 6.15pm

What a wonderful speaker we had today! If you were not at GEMS, we saw an amazing carry-on suitcase that has an integrated scooter (trotinette) in it.  GREAT for getting your kids through the airport while they help with carrying the luggage!

Hilah and I went to the Boarder’s Park store in Nyon to request a group order and discount. He is going to send me an offer today. He will be giving information on pricing depending on how many suitcases with the integrated scooter we order.

The regular price is 399CHF per suitcase, so we know that the price for one will be less than that. The more we order, the cheaper they will be. One Mom has placed a rush order on 4 already, and I’d like 2, (and I think Hilah might like 2, and Jana would like 2) so now we need people to order about 30 more to get the best discount! You can include a friend or two who do not go to GEMS if you are prepared to write their name, quantity, e-mail, and phone number on the order form.

I will create an order sign-up sheet and bring it to GEMS next week. The discounted prices will be posted on the blog before GEMS. You do not have to bring money, just fill out your name & contact information on the form.

I think this summer GEMS families are going to be the stars of the world’s airports – with happier moms (thanks to Tracy’s talk), happier kids (on their scooters), and stress-free dads (I kinda think they will ride the scooters too….).

Here are some details about the carry-on/scooter combo:

official name: micro luggage kickboard and trolley in one (for the Americans, that means “micro luggage scooter and suitcase in one”) Swiss design!

color: black  /  scooter can support: up to 100kilos  / wheels designed for use on asphalt and in the airport / weight empty: 5 kilos / approved as hand luggage (but always check with your airline) / case capacity 26 liters

The scooter looks very stable, with two wheels widely spaced apart on the front, luggage end and two wheels very close together on the back end.

Peter and Christina Kaergaard and big sister Julia (age 2) are really looking forward to a new baby on  the way, who should arrive in Morges in mid-June 2012.

This lovely family from Denmark moved to Switzerland about 2 years ago. They live in Gland. Christina is in the “mountain girls” group at GEMS.

Christina has a degree in food science. She is very happy to have a younger sister who has no kids who will be able to come and visit and help out a bit this summer when her new baby arrives.

She knows if she will have a girl or a boy – and she has already selected the magical GEMS saltine crackers. Have fun guessing or just ask her! She is relatively new to GEMS, so I’m sure she’d enjoy the chance to chat with you.

Whoooooo-wheeeeee!!!

Helen (Fitzgerald) and Brenton Swain of Sydney, Australia are pleased to announce that their move back Down Under has gone very well. Their third child, Mitchell, was born in the Nyon hospital last Feb. Supermom Helen barely spent 24 hours in the hosptial.

Mitchell really really wants to be like his older brother and sister – Jeremy and Eloise – because they are just so cool – he wants to be a big brother too! And so he will.

Helen is delightfully expecting her 4th, back home in Sydney surrounded by lots of family and friends who can lend helping hands in the busy, busy months to come. Jeremy and Eloise are really enjoying school and pre-school and Mitchell is very excited about being a “big boy” compared to the new baby that is coming.

Congratulations and love from all of GEMS Helen – we’ll be waiting for the birth announcement!

Hi GEMS -

I am leaving and want to sell my gym membership ASAP!

I just spoke to the manager of the gym. I can transfer the membership
to anyone, but they want the person to take an extra month, which
costs 360 CHF.
The amount of 430 CHF,  goes to me, the 360 to the gym, all in total
790 CHF for 6 months of gym membership.
The membership would start on the 1st of April in Harmony Club on the top of the Signy Center.

I wanted to pass on some great news from Alex Edwards who is in the Nyon small group.

She and her husband James (from the UK) as well as big brother Jacob are delighted to announce:

On Tuesday Alex gave birth to a baby girl!

Amelie Jane Edwards was born at 11.57 and weighed 6.8 pounds (3.08kg).

Alex’  Mum is visiting and will go back to the UK soon. Alex and Amelie are doing quite well after what was apparently a speedy birth. Well done Alex!
